New boutique cinema opening in Kingston

Updated: Mar 30, 2022

Cinema goers can enjoy new boutique cinema opening this spring in Kingston.

The new cinema, a four-screen venue, is due to open at the Bentall Centre, a shopping centre located just meters away from the Kingston train station and the Kingston University Penrhyn Road campus.

“The Curzon Cinema, which is due to open early 2022, will be located on the Second Floor next to Waterstones and will hold 4 screens,” the Bentall Centre said.

Curzon Cinema is an award winner film & cinema brand with 13 venues across the UK and multiple awards from the Oscars, the BAFTA and the Festival de Cannes.

Tony Lancaster, a resident from Kingston and a member of the Kingston Society committee, said: “Kingston Society is glad to see another cultural venue open, and welcomes the Curzon cinema chain with its reputation for offering a broader, Euro-centric and less mainstream selection of films.”

The company is partnering with the Bentall Centre to bring the new boutique cinema concept as part of the centre redevelopment plan.

“We are delighted to welcome Curzon Cinema,” the Bentall Centre said.

The Bentall Centre spans across four floors and is home to 75 stores, cafes and restaurants, including brands such as Superdry, Zara, Tommy Hilfiger, Starbucks, YO Sushi and Apple.

The Centre opened its doors in 1992 and is undergoing a redevelopment project to increase its appeal and enhance customers’ experience.

The project includes opening of new stores and a new dining and leisure area highlighted by the new Curzon boutique cinema and a rooftop bar & restaurant.

“Our aim is to complement the arrival of the Curzon Cinema in 2022 with new restaurants and eateries… an exciting period of transformation is underway,” the Bentall Centre said.

The cinema was initially planned to hold an outdoor, rooftop screen during the summer months but Curzon Cinema declined to confirm it.

“We are not yet in a position to confirm any details about our Kingston cinema,” Kelly Powell from Curzon Cinema said.

The arrival of the new boutique cinema brings more options for cinema goers in Kingston, with Odeon being their only option before the opening of the new Curzon cinema.
