Wagamama launched its student society called Noodle Union for students to socialise, have a designated study space and to order a meal at a discounted rate.

Wagamama introduced the concept of student benches wherein students can come to study and socialise at any location between Monday to Wednesday at 3 p.m.-5 p.m. from February 28 to March 30.

The manager of Kingston Wagamama said: “We have initiated this for students to have a place to study at away from the library, connect over coursework, complete any assignments or simply socialise.”

Wagamama has this for a specific time because it’s a trial run and just to see how successful this launch is. According to the Kingston outlet, students have been constantly coming in.

Fred Davis, 23, an American student said: “I have made acquaintances; had the chance to socialise. I am not sure if this is student friendly. It’s a little pricey for students. There are many restrictions, only Monday to Wednesday for a set two-hour timing. It messes up my meal time as well.”

Wagamama has a set menu for students opting in for the student scheme. It offers one drink, side and a main for £18.50. This choices on the menu include 5 sides, 5 drinks, 5 mains which is restricted and limited.

The official Wagamama Instagram page responded saying: “We chose 3 p.m.-5 p.m. because it’s always quiet at that time, so students could focus better. We might include some more items on the menu and extend the timings and days so students could make use of it.”

The official Wagamama website states: “It’s very interactive as students take up this advantage to study and meet new people at the same time – all with at an exclusive price.”

It’s upsetting for vegans/vegetarians as they only have 1 vegan/vegetarian side and main. Jesse Dave, 19, an Australian student said: “I have no options on this set menu, what I want is not even on here, plus it’s too expensive.”
