Updated: Mar 29, 2022

On Wednesday, Kingston students performed at the Rose Theatre for free and open to the public and KU members to come along.

The performers were a mixture of post-graduate and under-graduate’s that all went to KU. A mixture of solo performers and groups, all acts were performing very different genres and it was a great mix.

Course leader for Performance at BA, Cynthia said: “It’s really a cross of different musical styles, sometimes we have classical music being played, as well as pop music and you saw the interesting instruments like the harmonium.”

Performances by KU students at the Rose Theatre had to be stopped due to Covid-19 but this month's performance was their second back as restrictions eased.

One of the acts sang and played the harmonium: “I believe it was originally invented in France and then found its way to India and they really perfected it as a craft,” Third year BA Music Technology student, Tuck said.

The harmonium isn’t widely popular in the UK and it was really refreshing to hear a new genre and the way Tuck performed it was moving and refreshing.

Tuck uses the stage name and presence TuckFM and can be found on all social media with the username TuckFM. Tuck not only plays incredible music, he wears a beautiful kimono designed by Issey Miyake when performing.

He will be joining other performers next month, Wednesday April 20, for another lunchtime performance at the Rose Theatre.

There was little advertising for this event and organisers found it hard to get students to attend the performances when they are not on campus: “We’re not close to our own campus at Kingston hill,” Said Cynthia.
