Rex Orange County, also known as Alex O’Connor is a singer and songwriter with hip-hop, soul and jazz influences. O’Connor grabbed the attention in 2015 when he released his self-promoted album bcos u will never b free. With increasing popularity he then dropped Apricot Princess in 2017 which showed experimentation of his music, reaching and sharing new vibrant sounds. The album made it to the Top Ten of Billboard’s Independent Albums chart and inspired him to create his jazzy album PONY in 2019 and the most recent Who Cares? in 2022 under RCA Records, a label owned by Sony Music Entertainment. Rex Orange County born and raised in 1998, in Hampshire, in the South East of the Uk, he grew up singing in a school choir and later on after discovering his love of pop music, he started listening to a variety of different artists such as Queen, Green Day and Stevie Wonder.

In 2017 after releasing the album Apricot Princess he caught the attention of American Grammy-winner rapper Tyler, the Creator who then featured Rex Orange County on two tracks “Foreword and Boredom” for his fourth and Grammy-nominated album Flower Boy. In 2022 O’Connor also featured Tyler on his album WHO CARES? with “Open a Window”. Dutch singer and songwriter Benny Sings is also featured on the album which O’Connor considers to be a big influence on his music career as a solo artist. “I wanted to get out for a minute and my friend and I went to Amsterdam—a place I love very much. We went by car, so we didn’t touch anything anywhere, any person. Just like door to door, from London to Amsterdam. I have a good friend there called Benny Sings, who’s an artist—we made [2017 single] “Loving Is Easy” together. So we went in with him for two days, and that’s where [the album’s first single] “KEEP IT UP” came from. It’s probably very inspired by feeling like I didn’t want to keep it up and didn’t feel very good—so I wanted something motivational, some kind of an affirmation,” Rex Orange County said in an interview with Apple Music.

WHO CARES? is currently Number 1 on the UK charts of Top 100 albums.
